Food Stylist

A food stylist's job is to prepare and either photograph or film food with a camera so that it will look as appetizing as possible. A food stylists work appears all over the place, such as in commercials, magazines, cookbooks, and on menus. To become a food stylist, most people need an associate's degree in baking arts, culinary arts, nutrition, or something similar. Some great colleges to work towards becoming a food stylists are the Louisiana Culinary Institute, Culinary Institute LENOTRE, and Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, which is fairly close. The average income in Richmond for a food stylist is 56k-84k per year.

This career is very interesting to me because it is not something obvious that I would have thought of regarding a career in the arts, but a food stylist's work can be seen everywhere on a daily basis and is a large part of commercial art in society. Something interesting that I learned about this career is the strategies used within it to create the most appetizing looking food. For example, you would undercook something such as a steak on purpose if that would make it look more appetizing. Overall, I found this career very interesting.
