This year I have developed my painting skills, my main focus being abstract landscapes. Recently, I have been able to see significant growth. Painting has helped me create interesting works while keeping a natural feel. My process gives me the freedom to experiment with color as well. The landscapes I create help me to improve my compositional skills, but they also allow me to express an abstract style. I like to mostly work intuitively and quickly with my work because I believe it is helping me to accelerate my improvement. My plan is to continue working with paint for the foreseeable future because I can measure my progress well, and it puts me on a path to improving my self expression.
For many of my paintings, I have worked very quickly, focusing mostly on good composition and keeping my colors interesting. In more recent paintings, I have also put a large focus on texture and what it can do for my work. I am working towards more detailed landscapes, similar to the pieces of Richard Diebenkorn or Wayne Thiebaud. Improving color variety within each stroke is important to me, as it is an important aspect of these paintings.
My previous work has been focused on experimenting with different materials, so honing in on one specific medium has been beneficial to me. Working with a single medium gives me a better understanding of how much my work has progressed throughout the year. As I get deeper into my work, I hope to create pieces that feel finished and that I am proud of.
