Film Director
A Film director has many roles during the production of a film. They help to pick out who will be cast, work with production design, and oversee all of the creative pieces of filmmaking. Their main job is to transform a screenplay into a film successfully in a way that can connect with an audience. The requirements to be a film director are not very linear. There are multiple different ways to get this position. Many directors start out in another position in the film industry, such as an editor, writer, producer, or cinematographer. Others take a more direct approach, and begin right after they finish college.
There are many different college majors that can lead to this career or one similar to it. Some of them are very specific in their path, being specifically about direction, and some are more generally a “film”, or “motion pictures” major. There are not many colleges known for having a great program like this that are very close by. Some colleges known for having a great program farther away are the University of Southern California, New York University, and the University of Miami.
