I have decided to do research on film editors for this career post. A film editor is required to take all of the shots of a film, and put them together in a creative and coherent way. The editor normally works closely with the director to help satisfy their creative vision, but that does not mean that they do not have a massive effect on the product. An editor can be a large reason that a film is critically acclaimed/commercially successful, but they can also be one of the main causes of a negative reception to a film. To be a film editor, you will usually be required to have a bachelors degree related to film, such as a degree in communications. Classes are taught specifically about editing in many colleges. Some good colleges in Virginia for film editing are Virginia Commonwealth University and George Mason University. Some of the best colleges in the world if you want to pursue this career path are Emerson College, New York University, and the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. The average income for a film editor as of May 2019 was $87,300 dollars per year. I think that this career is very interesting because it would be awesome to see how you could directly influence a film to fully bring your and the director's vision into reality. I have always thought that this was a very interesting career path, so nothing I discovered changed my opinion on it.
