Benon Lutaaya was born in 1985 in Uganda. He got a BFA from Kyambogo University. His work is very interesting because he has a very chaotic piece that also manages to create a very realistic, compelling image. He paints, as well as works with collage. A lot of the time, his work focuses on how fragile and important one's life can be. Sadly, he passed away in 2019 at only 34 years old, but his work still goes on to be impactful and resonate with many people.
I really liked this piece because it is so simple, and doesn't even show the child's full head, but it conveys so much emotion and seems so realistic. I think he really conveys his message in his work about life, survival, and fragility all through this kids emotion. In my work, I want to work on trying to convey emotion even better like Lutaaya does through this seemingly simple piece. It really is amazing to me how this should seem pretty chaotic, but it really doesn't feel that way.
I like this piece as well because he seems to convey emotion very well with the dog. The loose strokes and simple colors still manage to create a very compelling piece. I definitely want to try and work with a style more similar to this in the future.
