Barcelo In a gallery - https://ropac.net/exhibitions/74-miquel-barcelo-on-the-sea/
Miquel Barcelo was born in Felanitx, Mallorca. He studied at the arts and crafts school in Palma, and he later studied at the Fine Arts School of Barcelona in 1974, but didn't study there for very long. He had a gallery show in the Palma museum only one year after coming back to Mallorca. Barcelo decided to travel a lot in the years after this. He went to many different places, including the West Africa and Paris, where he would allow what he experienced to influence his work. Since then, he has had his work displayed in many places, including the Louvre.
I think that Miquel Barcelo's work is very interesting. His exhibition "On the Sea", shown at Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, was particularly interesting to me. His combination of ceramic work and painting allowed for a very interesting space to be created, and his style was also very consistent throughout his pieces in the gallery, which created unity not just in the individual pieces, but in the space as a whole. He also uses a lot of texture in many of his paintings, which is something that I am trying to improve upon to make my pieces more interesting. The colors in these painting are also very intriguing, because he manages to make all of his pieces feel vibrant even though he is really only using white and shades of blue. I think that working with and studying value in my paintings and how effective multiple shades of the same color can be would be very helpful going forward.
